DBS Staff Research Day 2015

The DBS Staff Research Day took place in Aungier Street in early May, with lecturers from different faculties, and guest Dr. Bror Saxberg of Kaplan Universities, coming together  to share their ideas and research with colleagues.

The early morning was student-dominated with classroom focused research.  Topics covered included overcoming non-attendance and lack of engagement of students, the effectiveness of student emails, unleashing the power of memory in learning and online spaces in the cloud for assignment work.

From mid-morning to lunchtime there were talks about Film and Literature with speakers from across the School of Arts. They presented on Voices on Film, Cinematic Expressionism, the time and space of the work of art in the age of “Electrickery” and the Meaning of Meaning in Joyce’s Epiphanies.

After lunch, and having settled back in for the afternoon, there were presentations about age-related differences in response speed and accuracy on sequential responding tasks, inter-culturality in the language class and emotional and motivational factor impact on academic employee pride, identity, work commitment and organisational citizenship.

The guest speaker, Dr. Bror Saxberg from Kaplan Universities, made a presentation on ‘Resources for Research, and Teaching & Learning’, which was followed by a lively Q&A session.

Overall, a very interesting and educational day was had by all. You can find out more from the DBS Staff Research Day by going to Twitter and using the hash tag #DBSResearchDay.
