This part-time course aims to develop an understanding of the world of capital markets, investing and trading. The course commences with an introduction and in-depth look into the world of the stock market. Building on this, investment strategies, portfolio building, terminology and portfolio management are covered in detail. 

Programme Aims and Objectives

On completion of this course in Investment and Capital Markets students should have acquired the skills to:

  • Identify and understand the key macroeconomic and financial factors, which affect stock prices

  • Develop the skills necessary to conduct effective research on publicly listed companies

  • Familiarise students with market terminology and practices

  • Understand the operation and mechanisms of both stock and derivative markets

  • Understand and interpret key research data

  • Develop a fundamental understanding of public companies, from both a technical and financial perspective.

Assessment

To meet the requirements of the Diploma in Investment & Capital Markets, a student will be required to complete a written assignment (100%).

Please note this programme is not on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).

Diploma Structure

The programme is delivered in an interactive way with suggestions and discussions led by pupils. Various techniques and technologies are used to examine certain situations – for example, online trading, technical analysis and diversification. Students will attend class one evening per week over a 12 week duration, continuous assessment.

Further Study and Career Opportunities

Our course provides a foundation to continue studies in investment & capital markets arena, in particular, the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification.

Student Profile

Typically, participants on this programme have come from a background in the area of finance and also students with a keen interest in building or expanding on their own personal investment portfolios.The course is structured to  suit all students from all backgrounds. A financial  background is not required.

Fees

The fee for our Diploma in Investment and Capital Markets is €1,500. This is inclusive of tuition, registration, exam fees and DBS library membership. This fee must be paid in full before the course begins.

• DBS Library Aungier Street- the Library provides a programme of classes in the areas of Library resources, essay writing skills, avoiding plagiarism and referencing to assist you in your studies.  
• DBS Careers and Appointment Service- which provides a range of services for Diploma students such as career advice and workshops in CV writing and interview skills. 
• Subsidised Parking- DBS provides subsidised parking arrangements for students, which provides easy access to all main public transport routes in and out of the city centre. 
• Subsidised Student Canteen- Diploma students can avail of the Student Canteen which is open in the evenings and offers a wide variety of choices on its menu.
